Stepp Manufacturing was started in 1942 and is a member of the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM). They have been one of the few manufacturers to be setting the standards for asphalt maintenance equipment ever since. With that being said, let me tell you a little bit about their trailer pre-mix heaters...
SPH
The SPH comes in three sizes: 1.5 cubic yard (2 ton capacity), 2.0 cubic yard (3 ton capacity) and the 3.0 cubic yard (4 ton capacity). These pre-mix heaters are heavy duty construction and have a modular design for specific customization. The heat riser is located in the center where the heat is needed most. These also have a sloped design on the hopper to allow material to flow to the stainless steel shovel platform for easy dispensing. With these units you get a digital electronic thermostat for accurate temperature control, easy operation and safety.
The heating system is air jacketed. These systems are designed to evenly transfer heat and prevent scorching. Hot air goes into the hopper to provide heat over the top of the mix pile, while the center heat riser brings heat to the center to prevent the mixture from bridging. Two different fuel burners systems are available. You can go with a LP Burner system, which has a 250,000 BTU liquid burner or Diesel Burner system, which has a 12 volt Beckett diesel burner with 120,000 BTU. No matter which you choose, the system is mounted at the front of the unit away from the operator and the controls are mounted on the rear curbside of the unit at the operators station.
The trailers for the pre-mix heaters are top of the line. They consist of an A-frame construction with high strength rectangular steel tubing reinforcement at all the stress points. The axles have leaf spring type suspension. All electrical is 12v DC battery with a charging system. You have electric brakes, turn signals and brake lights, with all wiring and fuel lines running through the inside of the frame for protection from the elements. You also get the choice of ball style or pintle hitch.
